Sovereign File Server: Private Document Storage, Hosted in Switzerland

A dedicated private file server for your organisation — hosted 100% in Safe Swiss Cloud’s Swiss data centres, integrated directly into Windows Explorer, Mac Finder, and Linux desktops, and free from foreign government access.

Sovereign File Server — private document sharing hosted in Switzerland

What would happen if a non-European cloud provider decided to shut down your organisation’s communication infrastructure at the behest of a foreign government?
Could your business survive?

Most file sharing solutions — however convenient — are operated by US-owned companies subject to the US CLOUD Act. Your documents, contracts, client files, and internal data are potentially accessible to foreign authorities at any time.

Sovereign File Server is Safe Swiss Cloud’s answer: every customer gets their own dedicated, private server in their own virtual data centre — hosted exclusively in Switzerland, accessible like a local network drive, and operated entirely outside US jurisdiction.

Same functionality. Full sovereignty.

How It Works

Sovereign File Server gives your organisation a dedicated private server that works the way your team already works — with no learning curve and no compromise on security or performance.

Your own private server

Every customer gets a dedicated, private server in their own virtual data centre — not a shared pool. This means maximum performance and complete privacy for your organisation.

Integrated with your desktop

Access your file server directly from Windows Explorer — without any additional software. On Mac and Linux, integration is available with lightweight client software. Work with your files exactly as you would on a local network drive.

Access from anywhere, on any device

Your team can securely access files from Windows, Mac, or Linux computers, and from iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Whether in the office, at home, or on the move — your files are always available.

Based on Nextcloud

Sovereign File Server is built on Nextcloud, the leading open-source file collaboration platform. Proven enterprise technology, auditable by design, and free from proprietary vendor lock-in.

Find out how Sovereign File Server fits into your organisation’s infrastructure.

Sovereign File Server gives IT administrators granular control over who accesses what — at every level of the organisation.

Two Factor Authentication

All user access is protected with Two Factor Authentication (2FA). Unauthorised access is prevented even if credentials are compromised.

Role-Based Access Control

Define read and write permissions per user and per group, down to the folder level. Ensure sensitive data reaches only those who need it — with full auditability.

Secure external sharing

Share files and folders with clients, suppliers, and partners. Set passwords and expiration dates on shared links. Control access precisely and track activity in real time.

Encrypted backups to two data centres

All data is backed up to two independent Safe Swiss Cloud data centres. Backups are always encrypted. Recovery from backup is always possible — even in the event of hardware failure, ransomware, or other incidents.

Take full control of who accesses your organisation’s files — at every level.

Why Sovereign?

Sovereign File Server is not just hosted storage — it is a structural guarantee that your organisation’s files cannot be accessed or blocked by foreign governments.

No US Cloud Act

Safe Swiss Cloud is a fully Swiss-owned company. There is no US ownership, no US parent company, and no legal pathway for US authorities to access your files.

100% Swiss data centres

All data is stored exclusively in Safe Swiss Cloud’s own data centres in Switzerland. No data is processed or replicated outside Swiss territory.

Swiss & EU privacy law

Fully compliant with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (DSG) and EU GDPR. Compliance is technically and contractually ensured and is not dependent on contractual clauses from foreign providers that may not hold under European or Swiss law.

Dedicated server, maximum privacy

Your dedicated server means your data is isolated from other customers — by design.

Store your organisation’s files where no foreign government can reach them.

A universal solution for any organisation that needs to enable local or remote document access while keeping all data on its own servers.

* The number of possible simultaneous sessions is only an indication: Safe Swiss Cloud does not limit these. In practice, the performance is the only limiting factor: depending on the line speed of the users, the amount of simultaneous new or changing data, many more of fewer sessions maybe reasonable.

Pricing Example

Let’s say you are looking for a system which can handle 100 users of which you expect about 25 to be connected to Data Drop simultaneously and actively using the system. You should select the Entry Level Data Drop above, which will cost CHF 99.- per month.

If you have 170GB of data, pick the SSD Managed Storage 200GB (pltf.ssd-200-mngd) package, which will cost you CHF 20.- per month. If you need more storage, just subscribe to additional storage packages as needed.

So your total cost per month for this example would be: CHF 99.- + CHF 20,– + approx. CHF 25 for Backup = CHF 146.- per month.

The system does not restrict the number of users, but once you reach performance limits, you can upgrade your server.
